Commemoration of 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi (02 October 1869 – 30 January 1948) in Hanoi, Vietnam

Mahatma Gandhi’s 150^th Birth Anniversary was celebrated in Hanoi today. The main event to celebrate ‘Mahatma@150’ was organized by the Embassy of India, Hanoi, at the Voice of Vietnam Auditorium in Hoan Kiem District.

Among the Vietnamese dignitaries present in the event were H. E. Mr. Pham Anh Tuan, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Information and Communications of Socialist Republic of Vietnam; Prof. Dr. Đang Nguyen Anh, Vice President of Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences; Most Venerable Thich Thanh Nhieu, Permanent Vice President of Vietnam Buddhist Sangha; Mme. Phan Lan Tu, President of Vietnam India Friendship Association of Hanoi (HAVIFA); Mr. Ngo Minh Hieu, Vice President of Voice of Vietnam.

Several senior leaders and officials of various Ministries and Departments of Government of Vietnam; Friends of India in Vietnam; and members of diplomatic community joined the members of Indian Community in the celebration of the Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

Mr. Pranay Verma, Ambassador of India to Vietnam, welcomed the dignitaries and guests and highlighted the relevance of Mahatma Gandhi’s messages in contemporary times. Deputy Minister of Information and Communication, H.E. Mr. Pham Anh Tuan, in his remarks on the occasion paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and recalled his great contributions to global peace and human development.

During the event, Vietnam Post under the Ministry of Information and Communication released a special commemorative stamp set on Mahatma Gandhi. A collectible souvenir with four commemorative postage stamps of Mahatma Gandhi, President Ho Chi Minh, Sanchi Stupa of India, and Pho Minh Pagoda of Vietnam, was also released by the Vietnam Post.

Vietnam Institute for Indian and South-West Asian Studies (VIISAS) under the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS) issued a special edition of its journal on the 150^th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
