INTERNATIONAL DAY OF YOGA 2025

The International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2025 was observed at 43 venues across 38 provinces/localities throughout Vietnam this year. This year marked the tenth anniversary since the first International Day of Yoga after the proclamation of 21 June is IDY by the United Nations, a resolution adopted by consensus and co-sponsored by Viet Nam. In the last decade, the International Day of Yoga (IDY) has become a global movement promoting the practice of yoga for health and well-being across the world, embraced by all cultures and all continents recognizing its benefits for individuals and societies. 

Viet Nam has been an important partner in disseminating benefits of yoga, expanding its practice and holding the celebrations of the International Day of Yoga at a large scale over the last decade. The immense popularity of Yoga in Viet Nam provides a strong cultural and people-to-people connection between the two countries. Through the celebration of International Day of Yoga, we encourage a healthy lifestyle and to promote the message of peace and harmony within humans, in the society and between humans and nature. The growing acceptance of yoga represents positive trend of mindfulness and sustainable lifestyle combining traditional knowledge and modern life for greater global health.

10th Anniversary of International Day of Yoga (IDY) was marked in Hanoi on 21 June 2025 at Quan Ngua Sports Complex with participation of the Ambassador  of India Mr. Sandeep Arya; Madam Le Thi Hong Van, Secretary General of Vietnam National Comission for UNESCO & Director General, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam; Mr. Luu Van Duc,  Vice Chairman of the Vietnam-India Parliamentary Friendship Group, Ambassadors of Thailand & Sri Lanka, senior officials of various organizations, and numerous yoga clubs. A list of the IDY 2025 events in Vietnam where over 22,000 individuals attended the celebrations is annexed.

The theme for IDY this year “Yoga for One Earth, One Health” echoes the truth that personal wellness and planet’s health are inseparably linked. Apart from physical benefits of Yoga for human body, its breathing techniques and meditation promote inner calmness and balance, fostering unity between body and mind, thought and action and thus live in harmony with the nature. This heightened well-being and awareness promotes sustainable lifestyles and future for the entire planet.

The Prime Minister of India, H.E. Narendra Modi had written a letter to the Prime Minister of Vietnam, H.E. Pham Minh Chinh appreciating the support and contribution in promoting Yoga in Vietnam over the past decade and expressing gratitude for embracing and advancing Yoga as a shared heritage of humanity.

The Embassy of India appreciates the support of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Viet Nam, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Viet Nam, and the provincial/city authorities for their active support and participation in the events to mark the 10th Anniversary of International Day of Yoga. We would also like to recognize the support from Viet Nam Yoga Federations, provincial federations, yoga institutions, media, enterprises & individuals for their contribution and partnership in spreading awareness about Yoga among the friendly people of Viet Nam.
