International Day of Yoga 2025
Today is the tenth anniversary of the International Day of Yoga which was first observed in 2015 pursuant to the United Nations General Assembly Resolution adopted by consensus and co-sponsored by Vietnam to proclaim 21 June as the International Day of Yoga. The UN General Assembly recognized that Yoga provides a holistic approach to health and well-being, and that wider dissemination of information about the benefits of practicing Yoga would be beneficial for the health of the world population. Over the last decade, Yoga has transcended borders, cultures and languages to become a global practice.
The theme for this year “Yoga for One Earth, One Health” echoes the truth that personal wellness and planet’s health are inseparably linked. Apart from physical benefits of Yoga for human body, its breathing techniques and meditation promote inner calmness, balance and mindfulness, fostering unity between body and mind, thought and action and thus live in peace and harmony with those around us as well as the nature. This heightened well-being and awareness promotes sustainable lifestyles and future for the entire planet.
On the occasion of the International Day of Yoga this year, events promoting and demonstrating Yoga protocol are being held at over 40 venues across various provinces throughout Vietnam. Hanoi is hosting a gathering of Yoga enthusiasts at the Quan Ngua sports complex with the participation of public figures, officials, foreign diplomats, yoga federation, yoga clubs and individuals. The support of the Government of Vietnam, Provincial People’s Committee and local organization has been valuable in holding these functions. Another event is taking place today at Tam Thanh Square in Quang Nam. Annexed is the list of Yoga Day events taking place in different parts of Vietnam this year.
The Prime Minister of India, H.E. Mr Narendra Modi has written a letter to the Prime Minister of Vietnam, H.E. Mr Pham Minh Chinh appreciating the support and contribution in promoting Yoga in Vietnam over the past decade and expressing gratitude for embracing and advancing Yoga as a shared heritage of humanity.
