ITEC Programme

Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation Programme (ITEC Programme) was launched on 15 September 1964 by Ministry of External Affairs of Governement of India. Over the last 55 years, ITEC has been a vehicle to share India's vast and unique experience of growth and development through capacity building and training of more than 200,000 government officials and professionals from 160 partner countries including Vietnam in India’s premier institutes. With the focus on our immediate neighbourhood and key partner countries, ITEC currently offers around 12,000 scholarships every year to professionals across a wide range of expertise, including in Information Technology, Healthcare, Agriculture, Governance, Entrepreneurship, Energy, Parliamentary Studies etc.

Diversifying the ITEC activities, Ministry of External Affairs has launched a new “e-ITEC” initiative under which the online courses are conducted through video conferencing. These courses are tailor-made and based on specific requirement of the partner country.

The new online course, under e-ITEC programme, on Big data Anlaystics and R-programming is being organised by India’s premier technology institute, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras for graduate and post-graduate students of Vietnam was inaugurated on 7th October 2019 by Hon'ble Minister of External Affairs of India, Dr. S. Jaishankar. In Vietnam, the programme was launched in partnership with the Vietnam National University (VNU), one of Vietnam’s key centres of excellence in science and technology. Mr. Pranay Verma, Ambassador of India to Socialist Republic of Vietnam and Mr. Pham Bao Son, Vice President of Vietnam National University along with students and faculty members attended the inauguration ceremony. About 50 students from VNU are going to attend the course.

Indian Institute of Technology, Madras is one of the centres of excellence of international recognition in higher technological education, basic and applied research. The Institute has sixteen academic departments and advanced research centres in various disciplines of engineering and pure sciences with a faculty of international repute and best educational infrastructure.
