Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary celebrations

Embassy of India, Hanoi in partnership with the University of Social Sciences & Humanities (USSH) and the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS), organized a seminar titled “Mahatma Gandhi: the Saint from Gujarat” to mark the 148th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi at the Daewoo Hotel on 2 October 2017. The day also marks the 10th anniversary of the International Day of Non-Violence declared by United Nations in June 2007. While Ambassador P. Harish welcomed the participants at the seminar, others who spoke at the event included Assoc. prof. Dr. Dang Nguyen Anh, Vice President of VASS, Most Ven. Thich Duc Thien, General Secretary of the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh, Rector of USSH and Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Quynh, Deputy Director General of the Department of Religions of Vietnam Fatherland Front. A Vietnamese translation of Gandhi’s book The Essence of Hinduism, done by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Do Thu Ha, Head of the Department of Indian Studies, USSH, was also released on the occasion.
