Use of Thuraya/Irridium Satellite phones is banned in India. Unauthorised use of such phones will lead of confiscation of the same and will attract prosecution as per relevant laws governing use of satellite phones in India. Visitors are advised not to carry/use satellite phones during their visit to India.

Bilateral trade between India and Vietnam has seen continuous growth over the past many years. Bilateral trade, according to Indian data, during FY 2016-2017 reached US$10.135 billion, registering an increase of 29.5 percent. In the FY 2017-2018, the bilateral trade for the period April – January was US$10.39 billion and has already exceeded the previous years’ figure. Vietnam is the second largest export destination for Indian products after Singapore in the ASEAN region.  Vietnam is the 4th largest trading partner of India among ASEAN countries after Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia. India is now among the top ten trading partners of Vietnam. Both sides have agreed on a trade target of US$15 bn by 2020. Five key items exported to India were mobile phones and components, machinery, computers & electronic hardware, natural rubber, chemicals and coffee. The biggest products imported from India were meat and fishery products, corn, steel pharmaceuticals, cotton and machinery.

India’s investments in Vietnam are around US$ 1.66 billion but are expected to rise in the coming years. According to the Foreign Investment Agency, in 2017, India registered 44 fresh projects with total capital of US$151.38 million. As such, India has 169 valid projects with total invested capital of US$756.37 million, ranking 27th among countries and territories investing in Vietnam. Latest project is the project of Tata Coffee in Daknong province with total registered capital of US$63 million. The figures from Vietnam do not include Indian investment from third countries. Vietnam has six investment projects in India with total investments of US$ 28.55 million. Vietnamese companies are investing in the area of pharmaceuticals, information technology, chemicals and building materials. In 2013, Tata Power was awarded a US$1.8 billion thermal power project in Soc Trang Province, which is the largest Indian investment project in Vietnam till date. Indian companies are investing in energy, mineral exploration, agro-processing, sugar manufacturing, agro-chemicals, IT, and agricultural processing.
